How Balloons are Printed

Step 1: Screen Making.

A film positive is made from your artwork, then exposed onto a fabric screen that has been coated with a photosensitive emulsion. The excess emulsion is washed off the screen, leaving your design on a clear area for the ink to pass through.

Step 2: Printing.

The printing operator inserts the balloons into a slot, which inflates the balloon.

Step 3:

The balloon rotates to a station where the screen compresses the balloon to create a flat printing surface. A squeegee then passes across the screen, transferring ink to the surface of the balloon.

Design Around printing involves printing on four sides and the top. At each of the four stations, the balloons are turned before printing the next side. The balloon then flips up to have the top printed.
